Philosophy on Designing Websites and other Promotional Materials My mission/goal for designing websites/promotional materials is to present a true image of my client and what they stand for in a positive and accessible way that drives business towards them.
Philosophy on Researching and Writing Grants for Private Businesses & Nonprofits My focus when researching and writing grants is to use client specific information to locate and apply for grants that fill gaps in the client's funding. I do not use specific prejudices or filters when locating grants for clients as it is better to leave all doors open to different grant options. Additionally, I only apply to grants that clients accept but do not guarantee any awarded grants.
Pedagogical Philosophy on Coaching & Editing Coaching and mentoring are directly connected to teaching and learning. Learning is the process of gaining knowledge through experience inside and outside of the classroom setting. Teaching is a method of presenting knowledge to students with the goal of having the students acquire the knowledge. Coaching is close to teaching as it is a means of guiding a student through the learning process but isn’t the same as they are not usually presenting new knowledge.
My philosophy on coaching and mentoring ties closely to Progressive educational philosophy in that I feel it is important to teach the whole person. This means that when I am working with someone I will not only focus on the skills I want them to master but also those aspects that may not seem directly connected to the skill. An example of this might be when a portion of a writing piece is throwing the flow of the piece off, instead of suggesting the part be removed I would assess the importance of the part and then make suggestions from there. A writer usually has a reason for including items in their story and to understand why the writer has included it may lead to a better coaching session and increase of skills knowledge.
Additionally, when working with someone on their writing I allow who they are to be a part of the mentoring process. I want them to know that I see them as a person and that their opinions and knowledge are valuable assets to the instructional framework I am trying to build with them and within the learning space.
